Editorial Policy
Last updated 6 September 2026
Every recommendation on Toolshelf is based on research and hands-on use, judged against features, usability, pricing and practical usefulness.
How we evaluate tools
We start with the job the reader is trying to finish, then test tools against that job at the pricing tier most readers would actually buy.
- Features: does it do the core job without workarounds?
- Usability: how long until a new user reaches a useful result?
- Pricing: what does the realistic tier cost, including seats and limits?
- Practical usefulness: does it still earn its place after a few weeks?
Independence
No vendor can buy a ranking, a rating or a place on a list. We do not accept payment for reviews, and sponsored content is never presented as editorial.
What we will not publish
We do not invent testimonials, user reviews, awards or statistics. We do not publish claims we cannot support, and we do not use misleading headlines to win clicks.
Corrections and updates
Guides carry a published and an updated date. When pricing or features change materially, we revise the article and note the change. Spotted an error? Tell us and we will fix it.
